HORNET RULES
Drivers will not acquire any points until they become a
member of the NIDRA
This is an economy class, age 14 and up with or without race experience. Drivers can only participate for 3 years in this class, then must advance to another class.

1. Open to any 4 - cylinder car with a maximum wheelbase of 103” and a
complete stock steel body, interior, frame and suspension.
2. ROLL BARS ARE REQUIRED - A four - point cage made from .095 1
1//2” tubing is REQUIRED.
3. Drivers door must be welded shut.
4. WINDOW NET - On driver’s side is MANDATORY and MUST be
equipped with a quick release mechanism. No plastic parts or springs(all
metal).
5. Dash board and all components, steering, and pedals must remain
completely stock for make and model of car. All other interior material,
door panels, head liners, carpeting and other flammable materials must be
removed. This includes insulation under hood and in trunk.
6. Car horns remain intact and in working order. Secondary and accessory
horns are encouraged. Original stock wiring harness and dash
instrumentation is required.
7. Stock carburetor or fuel injection for that make and model.
8. Stock transmission for that make and model.
9. Stock unaltered exhaust system for that make and model: MUFFLERS
MANDATORY. All loud cars will be given one race to correct this
condition.
10. Battery MUST be securely fastened and remain under the hood.
11. Stock unaltered rear end for that make and model. No limited slip or
locked up front wheel drive.
12. Approved DOT 70 series tires only. Wheels and tires must be of like
size. No low profile tires, no stagger. 30 PSI minimum air pressure all
four tires must be same pressure at all times
13. GAS TANK
A. If stock gas tank is ahead of rear axle it may remain in place.
B. If stock tank is behind rear axle, it must be replaced with a fuel
cell or plastic boat tank. (6.6 gallon maximum).
C. Fuel cell/boat tank must be covered, secured, and located in
trunk. All fuel lines penetrating sheet metal must have rubber
grommets. Secure tank with no less than four separately secured
metal straps or welded link chains. The box must have an easy to
open scalable cover. The bottom of the box must be open to
below the car. No exhaust components ca be within 24 inches of
below the box. No fuel lines can run inside the driver’s
compartment.
14. All glass must be removed prior to arrival at the track. Windshield
replaced with wire mesh screen. Additionally there will be two 1 ¼” by
1/8” thick band steel straps top to bottom.
15. Third brake light MUST remain intact and in working order. If car did
not originally come with one, you must provide an operable third brake
light.
16. Helmets must be DOT or SNELL approved and must meet the Federal
Motor Vehicles Safety Standard, or meet specifications set forth by the
American National Standards Institute. It is mandatory that AT ALL
TIMES driver’s suit of fire retardant material that effectively covers the
body from neck to ankles and wrist be worn at all times while on racing
surface. It also recommended that driver wear Nomex long underwear,
socks, head socks, gloves, and shoes made with fire resistant material.
Heavy weight 100% cotton is acceptable.
17. Interior padding will be required in driver’s compartment wherever an
arm, knee or other body parts can come within twelve inches of contact
when driver is belted into seat.
18. Racing harnesses are mandatory: 3” minimum, 5 point style. The roll
over bar directly behind the driver’s seat is intended to be one of the
harness mounting locations. Strongly mounted professionally built
racing seats are RECOMMENDED.
19. Recommended a Helmet Support Collar.
20. Cars must be painted bright colors NO DARK or BLACK CARS.
21. Car numbers on door must be 20” tall in an EASY TO SEE color. Roof
numbers must be at least 36” in height.
22. No two way radio communication between driver and/or
pits/grandstands.
23. All cars must carry a 2 ¼ lb. ABC dry chemical or Halon fir
extinguisher, securely mounted (no plastic mounts) within reach of the
driver when belted into seat.
24. Race procedure and line ups will be at the officials discretion.
25. $500.00 Management ONLY claim in effect at all times. This does not
include fuel cell, racing seat or safety items. This claim will only be
used if the competitor is over spending to become a dominate factor in
points. Remember this is an economy class and we will police over
spending by claiming exotic cars. A claim will not without warning, it
will only be used when a competitor will not comply with the rules.
